Official Review of The Last Text You Sent by Elise Fender

The Last Text You Sent by Elise Fender is a heart breaker of a story. Not what     most would expect by reading the title.   Whit Walker is the ‘’star’’ of the show while his sister Avery Walker ‘’co-stars’’ in it. Their stories are intertwined as only sibling stories can be. Written in diary entry fashion the book opens up with Avery Walker going about her life like a normal teenager awaiting her first kiss at one of her brother’s games.   Tragedy strikes and Whit sustains a head injury that interrupts the romantic moment and later takes his life. His family struggle to get over his death showing that their lives practically revolved around Whit. Without him, they had lost direction and will to go on.   One day, one of the paramedics returns her brother’s phone and she discovers that her brother had a romantic relationship with someone he only saved in his phone as OCMC. The messages OCMC sends to Whit’s phone makes her realise that not on...

Official Review of Kalayla, a novel by Jeannie Nicholas

Kalayla , a novel written by Jeannie Nicholas, is a story about three remarkable women. The story presents four major themes, love, racism, gender-based violence, and family. The novel has Kalayla, Maureen’s daughter, as the protagonist and catalyst that brings the three women together. The first encounter Lena has with Kalayla’s free-spirited nature is when she notices her down the street. Somehow, Kalayla always seems to be close by. It is not only the free spirited nature that Kalayla has that draws her attention but the sculpted features and mannerisms her two dead sons used to have growing up.   One day, she follows the girl to the building where she lives and discovers that she and Maureen are tenants there. In speaking to the little girl for the first time, Lena discovers that she has a smart mouth, a mouth that could get her in trouble if her mother did not get her off the streets she wandered every day. This made her start an "intervention," which made sure she...

Official Review of Seeing with Fresh Eyes, a book by John W. Bullock

Seeing with Fresh Eyes    is a bible commentary by John W. Bullock. It involves the reader and the bible and is for believers, non-believers, and people who are just starting out their journey through the Christian faith.   It is for Christians who despite being raised in a church are yet to understand the key components of being a Christian. How they were saved, what salvation is, and what it means to be a Christian. In a revelation, the author explains and highlights the dysfunctional relationship between God and his people after Adam and Eve’s fall from Grace.   He uses Adam and Eve’s sin as an example of how people submit to the kingdom of the ‘’self’’ instead of committing or submitting to the Kingdom of God. ‘’The Kingdom of the Self’’ is a beastly trait that they adopted soon after consuming the forbidden fruit that was off-limits for them but good for the beasts in the garden.   To quote a sentence from the book, ‘’Only Adam was rest...
