Everything is not as it seems in this sci fi
supernatural thriller. Written by J.W Zarek, The Devil Pulls The Strings is a tale about an old curse that might
come back to haunt the one who caused it along with the world if damage control
is not taken at the earliest.
At the centre of it, is our hero and protagonist
Boone Daniels. None the wiser he steps in for his best friend to play with his
band The Village Idiots at the Ren Faire in New York. Things seem
simple enough until Professor Stone, the person he was asked by his best friend
Flynn to meet is thrown to his death beside him and his assistant Sapphire.
From here on
out the two, embark on a musical journey to find Paganini’s music. Music that
will help them summon the Devil and stop Sinti. A lot is riding on The Devil’s
summoning which will grant them a wish to set everything right as Boone is
caught in a difficult situation. The book gives off a Harry Potter and
Chronicles of Narnia vibe with elements of Steam Punk. Time travel and Magic
are at the heart of this story with mythical creatures in a modern day world
living under secret societies and organisations.
The author takes mythical stories, places, and
legends and blends them together to give us a master- piece. Found no negative
aspects in this genre- bending thriller. The book has everything a supernatural
junky would want. Recommend the book to an audience of 16 and above because of
scenes of a violent nature and readers with a taste for books that appeal to an
inner introspective. The introspective here being how Boone Daniels is forced
to come face to face with his fears in order to save the world. I give this
book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
